It took awhile for the cupcake craze to finally reach San Francisco. New York has Magnolia, Los Angeles has Sprinkles and finally San Francisco has it’s very own Kara’s.
I’m not going to be mean and do a comparison of the cupcake shops, but Kara’s Cupcakes is a feel good, non pretentious, homey good cupcake. Super moist cake, super soft frosting. Cupcakes that are filled are even more spectacular, adding an even more sugary goodness that no adult should enjoy. At around $3.25 a pop, it’s kinda pricey compared to those Hostess cupcakes I used to eat as a child, but at Kara’s they purchase their ingredients locally as well as organically. Heck, if that doesn’t scream San Francisco, I don’t know what else is.
